Privacy Policy
Last updated: 19 October 2026
This policy describes how Unexamined Nature Analytics (“the tool”) handles data it receives from Google. The tool is a private command-line program that runs only on the computer of the operator of the Unexamined Nature YouTube channel, for that channel only.
Data the tool accesses
With the channel owner's consent through Google sign-in, the tool reads, read-only:
- Channel and video details (YouTube Data API): the channel ID and title, and the titles, publish times and durations of the channel's own videos.
- Aggregated channel analytics (YouTube Analytics API): per-video views, watch time, average view duration, likes, comments and shares counts, subscribers gained and lost, audience retention, traffic source types, and the top search terms and suggested videos that led viewers to a video.
- Reach reports (YouTube Reporting API): impressions and click-through rate. To receive them the tool creates one reporting job on the channel. This does not change the channel or its videos.
These are aggregated statistics. The tool does not request or receive the names, accounts or contact details of individual viewers.
How the data is used
Only to produce performance reports for the channel operator, so they can make decisions about their own videos. The data is not used for advertising, is not sold and is not used to train AI models.
Storage
- Reports and the raw API responses are saved as files on the operator's own computer.
- The Google sign-in token is stored in a local configuration file on that computer. It is not committed to any code repository and is not sent anywhere except to Google when the tool calls Google's APIs.
- There is no server, database or cloud backend for this tool. This website does not receive any Google user data.
Sharing
Data received from Google is not shared with, sold or transferred to any third party.
Retention and deletion
Local reports are kept for as long as the operator needs them for the channel and can be deleted at any time by deleting the files. Access can be revoked at any time in your Google Account under Third-party apps with account access; the tool then can no longer read any data.
Google API Services User Data Policy
Unexamined Nature Analytics' use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. The tool also uses YouTube API Services; see the Google Privacy Policy.
